Endoscopy & Colonoscopy

At Numed Super Speciality Hospital, we provide advanced endoscopy and colonoscopy services to diagnose and treat problems related to the digestive system. These procedures are performed by experienced gastroenterologists using the latest equipment to ensure accurate results and patient comfort.

What is Endoscopy?

Endoscopy is a medical procedure used to look inside the upper part of the digestive system. It is done using a thin, flexible tube with a camera and light (called an endoscope). This test helps in finding the cause of symptoms such as:

  • Heartburn or acid reflux

  • Stomach pain

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Difficulty swallowing

  • Bleeding in the upper digestive tract

What is Colonoscopy?

Colonoscopy is a procedure used to examine the inside of the large intestine (colon and rectum). It is used to check for:

  • Blood in the stool

  • Changes in bowel habits

  • Long-term constipation or diarrhea

  • Colon polyps or cancer

  • Inflammatory bowel disease (like Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis)

Why Choose Numed?

  • Skilled and experienced doctors

  • Modern, high-definition equipment

  • Comfortable and safe environment

  • Sedation options available for painless experience

  • Same-day discharge in most cases

FAQ's

What is the difference between endoscopy and colonoscopy?

Endoscopy is used to examine the upper part of the digestive system (esophagus, stomach, and upper small intestine), while colonoscopy is used to examine the lower part (colon and rectum).

How long do the procedures take?

An endoscopy usually takes about 15–30 minutes, while a colonoscopy may take 30–45 minutes. You may need to stay for some time afterward until the effects of sedation wear off.

Do I need to stop eating before the test?

Yes. For an endoscopy, you should not eat or drink anything for at least 6–8 hours before the test. For a colonoscopy, you will need to follow a special diet and take bowel preparation medicine the day before the procedure.

Are there any risks involved?

These procedures are safe when performed by trained specialists. Rarely, there may be minor side effects like bloating, sore throat (after endoscopy), or mild cramping. Serious complications are extremely rare.
